Eog,
Please tell me, what bible do you think is real? You fail to answer my question! And while you are at it, answer this also....what do you call your denomination of belief? I ask you to please answer both of the questions. I don't think they are to hard, are they?
Now to the verse, your bibles and mine.....
Yours: 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Mine: 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Guess what, look up usward? No such word! But I will pull the word apart...us and ward! [Had to to make a meaning for it!]
Us - we know what that means
Ward - Main Entry: 1ward Pronunciation: 'word Function: noun Etymology: Middle English, from Old English weard; akin to Old High German warta act of watching, Old English warian to beware of, guard, w‘r careful -- more at WARY Date: before 12th century 1 a : the action or process of guarding b : a body of guards 2 : the state of being under guard; especially : CUSTODY 3 a : the inner court of a castle or fortress b : a division (as a cell or block) of a prison c : a division in a hospital; especially : a large room in a hospital where a number of patients often requiring similar treatment are accommodated 4 a : a division of a city for representative, electoral, or administrative purposes b : a division of some English and Scottish counties corresponding to a hundred c : the Mormon local congregation having auxiliary organizations (as Sunday schools and relief societies) and one or more quorums of each office of the Aaronic priesthood 5 : a projecting ridge of metal in a lock casing or keyhole permitting only the insertion of a key with a corresponding notch; also : a corresponding notch in a bit of a key 6 : a person or thing under guard, protection, or surveillance: as a : a minor subject to wardship b : a person who by reason of incapacity (as minority or lunacy) is under the protection of a court either directly or through a guardian appointed by the court -- called also ward of court c : a person or body of persons under the protection or tutelage of a government 7 : a means of defense : PROTECTION
OK, lets put them together, usward;[us] [who are guarded]! You say that is only the elect, I agree! Who are the elect? Those who God has chosen AND AT THE SAME TIME those who have chose to have faith in Christ. They are one in the same. He has chosen us and we have chosen him!
So you see the verse in both bibles mean the same. I do not have a problem with either interpretation. You on the other hand, inventing a meaning for usward, have chose to leave out those who have chosen to have faith, by your own invention. Please be careful of that because you seem to keep doing it, choosing some invention of the meaning of a word.
Besides, if your self invented interpretation were true, [which it is obviously is not] the verse would have no meaning. Why would God have to have patience at all for us to come to repentance if he has chosen, and we did not have to choose to come to repentance by ourselves? We would not have to come to repentance because he has chosen us and their is no repentance necessary. This verse would be a waste of time. Why would God say he has to have patience with us if we don't have to choose? None of God's word is meaningless and you are trying to make it be.
You keep failing to understand, God choosing us and us choosing to have faith in God can both be true at the same time. Stop limiting God! That is a dangerous business, that is, putting limits on God!
Reason my friend, reason!
God Bless, Steve |
