Patrick, there are periods where a stronger dollar and a stronger US stock market go hand in hand.

We also have periods where we have had pronounced US dollar weakness, yet we have a much stronger stock market.

the USD peaked in March of 1985 at 3.43-3.47 $/Dem ---depending on if one considers intraday global market extremes.

And the USD was worth 240 or so Yen back then. the USD then declined remarkably into the summer of 1987 and indeed into the start of Jan 1988, before having a big rally.

The US stock market rose appreciably from the spring of 1985 into the summer of 1987....... showing that there is no direct correlation of the two.

Other flow of funds considerations must enter into the equation as well.

John
