thanks so much, telcomguy. does nortel fabricate its own optical components - the whole range needed for OC-192 - as well as buy from others?
i found it significant that John Roth mentioned twice that "it's very difficult to put 100 colors on a strand. we've been doing this sort of thing since 1992." implying (to me) they had developed proprietary fabricating skills, that lucent, just ramping up, will have difficulty matching.
he also mentioned substantially increasing plant space. surely they're not doing telephone wire in there.
but please tell me whether you know - and hopefully how - if nortel fabs its own optics.
