We shall all be seduced into giving up our privacy. We do it on the web all the time.

Turn the locator off and you get generic ads, can't access mapping functions, or local directories, call cabs etc. Turn it on and you do all these things, and get more local ads. Add your individual profile to position the ads could suit your personality, location, and time.

I am schizophrenic about this. I don't like the idea of companies with my profile and position being better able manipulate me - persuade me to buy things - but I am likely to help them - sell my soul byte by byte. I am likely to find the damn system too useful to ignore. On a gut level I am likely to find the ads designed for me less annoying than those that don't interest me.

This is likely to be very lucrative for Qualcomm. Advertisers will pay much more for ads that are more likely to be effective.

Thus, I have conflicting feelings. I happen to be more exorcised by uninhibited capitalism than the state, but being tracked and profiled has enormous potential for abuse by whoever has the info. Despite my concerns, I might like to use the system. And finally, I am excited by its dollar potential.
