Hello PJ,

A couple of notes ...

Novell and AT&T partnered for years (or attempted to) in the area of NDS and private network services. It is my understanding that within the last year AT&T made the decision *not* to go with NDS ... they are going to get rid of it. I'd love to hear from a Novell employee or contact (public or private) that would confirm/deny/correct this ...

From what I understand, even with the work that they did (and demonstrated) with NDS v8, AT&T made decisions otherwise. I'd love to be wrong on this one ... but it's what I've heard. (Stewart ... what happened?)

As for caching ...

I don't think this is very surprising at all ... I am still convinced that Novell has a very strong offering in the proxy caching space. Anyone with the technical ability to compare ... specifically cost/performance comparisons ... will see that Novell has really capitalized on it's strengths with the ICS/BorderManager products.

What I like to see is that the quotes from Eric are starting to move in this direction. He seems to be moving *away* from the straight directory stuff (which will become a *major* commodity) and talking about directory-enabled applications, directory-enabled management, and even talking about being Cisco-like ... this is much more on target.

We are getting closer to witnessing the "object routing" world come of age ... and Novell could be a major player in this space ...
