On the directory application level

This may still be too far ahead of the curve but look at the problem from the end users point of view. You want to change your long distance service. That simple request gets pretty complicated because in most instances it involves three companies coordinating telephone calls and paperwork.

The reason is simple, the focus is in the wrong place --- it is on the customer in the MCI database, the customer in the AT&T database, and the customer in the local telecom customer base AND NOT JUST ON THE CUSTOMER IN THE CUSTOMER DATABASE.

Novell has the ability to coordinate these three databases and put the customer in control of the paperwork. It should be of interest to the telecoms to develop this level of coordination using an internet directory like Novells since their customers all benefit from the "experience".

You piss your customers off to the extent that people complain to the FCC and you lose business. Why lose business when there is a technical fix that makes you look good --- BETTER SERVICE EQUALS LOYAL CUSTOMERS.
