INNOVATION COMES INTO FOCUS
Anytime/anywhere Internet access in Europe came closer to reality
this week following a move by Photo-Me of the U.K. to turn its
20,000 photo booths into Internet kiosks. Photo-Me is expected to
begin to offer Internet access in its photo booths next month and
plans to have 1,000 "PhotoPlanets" operational by year-end.
Photo-Me, whose primary markets are the U.K., France and Japan,
added that it would be looking for acquisitions in the U.S. However,
we feel it may itself become a target as its unique approach and
potential worldwide Internet reach might be attractive to a content
provider. It already has agreements with British Telecom and
Musicmaker.com. We see this rollout as another example of an
increasingly Internet connected world, with access at home, at work,
in the car and on the street.
