Heinz, thanks for the link. And you can say that part about the bubonic plague again. I like to think of the AEX as the Hang Seng of Europe, very often exaggerating the US moves. Also, since about currently 84% of the weight of the index is from stocks which are listed on WS as ADRs, the index is very closely linked to the performance of the US markets. This has the funny consequence that you can almost precisely calculate the opening of the market in Amsterdam on the basis of the difference between the close of trading in Amsterdam and their ADRs in NY and the euro/dollar rate. At night-trading.com there's a nice 'calculator'.

You notice that WS has an almost perfect correlation to the euro/dollar rate. So does the AEX. The rise in the dollar in the past few months is almost exactly mirrored 1-to-1 in the performance of the index. Which means we'll probably have to suffer big once the euro/dollar will appreciate again.
