Vince,

<When you say "April", are you referring to the launch of Tbird or production from Dresden?>

Production from Dresden/Launch.

<I think the timing of the Tbird/Spitfire launch is THE question for AMD, now that most have come around to recognition that Cumine and Athlon are currently equivalent clock-for-clock. In that situation I have felt for some time that AMD will not be able to sell all the Athlons they can make, at least not without a debilitating price war.>

A few thoughts:
- that Dell is *still* not getting 800s with good lead times is a clear indication that Intel is not shipping much product above 733
- Currently Athlons supply seems to be tight at 600 but there seems to be good product availability at 700/800. Tells me that AMD needs a few more business SKUs
- Thought 850 is the only committed launch for February, I would think that 900MHz could happen at the same time. (I am basing this on the phenomenal MHz ramp that seems to be happening at Austin)

<So the question of Tbird (or perhaps the 'Professional-like' full-speed DDR cache thing reported by JC and ACE) timing is key. What do you hear? >

That AMD can turn the production "on" pretty much anytime it wants to and products will show up at the other end couple of months later.

<Johan was the one reporting the rumoured slip, and he does appear to have some sources at Dresden.>

I don't know where Johan got the story - probably sparked off by Jerry's comments earlier this week about June production.

Chuck

P.S.: For the first time ever I am getting a feeling that Intel may be the underdog in MHz this year even with Wilamette showing up in Q4. When I build a little bit more conviction on this side I will move more of my portfolio to AMD.
