I read an article a year or two ago in a magazine when the incident of the 16-year-old girl's being forced to marry her uncle was publicized. It did mention the large number of practicing polygamists in Utah, and the state's turning a blind eye.
Your original post stated that the practitioners were Mormon "fundamentalists". That brought to mind the excesses of the Taliban, legal systems in countries such as Saudi Arabia which favor males, female mutilation in some African societies, etc., hence my post.
