Clam Clam,

MSFT has already abstracted the BDMS system away from the end-user. They now provide a transaction engine, as well as numerous business objects they refer to collectively as the merchant server. MSFT has all the goods, but ORCL and SAP and CA continue to do well. IMHO these other companies success is due to the legacy installed base of mainframes and UNIX systems (this will gradually transition), or applications. Applications is it. ORCL has a massive force of contractors that implement their business application. It will take quite some time for Microsoft to compete in this area. MSFT is providing the systems foundation to compete, but not the human knowhow. This is what SAPs success is based on as well - applications.

I believe there is an emerging market opportunity here to compete with ORCL, SAP, and CA with a much lower cost basis. I'm looking for the company(s) that take first advantage as very good investments.
