QS - I agree with your comments on Ultra 3 but I think you are discounting IA64 too much - in addition to the Unisys machine there are several other big chipsets in the works for IA64, and those machines will start hitting the market this year. Performance will probably be nothing to write home about... don't quite see why you think the Unisys machine is a "couterfeit" - it is a straight-up cached crossbar design as far as I can tell - although my knowledge comes from chatting with Unisys guys at Comdex... Sun just needs to execute its roadmap to stay in the game. Even a 32 way Wintel box is more like a 6500 competitor...
