After The Bell - Qualcomm inches up, Compaq slips
NEW YORK, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Qualcomm Inc. <QCOM.O> nudged higher in after-hours U.S. trading on Wednesday, while Compaq Computer Corp. <CPQ.N> continued a slide that began during regular hours, traders said.

Qualcomm, the superstar-performing stock that posted the highest gains on Nasdaq in 1999, tumbled during regular hours. Qualcom, which closed down 24-3/8 to 124-5/8, traded on Instinet at 125-1/2, traders said. The wireless phone-equipment maker had warned that shipments of its products could slacken.

Shares of Compaq, the world's No. 1 personal computer maker, slid to 28-1/4 in after-hours trading on Instinet. The stock closed down 2-5/16 to 29-5/16 on the regular market.

Bear Stearns trimmed its 2000 earnings outlook for Compaq to $1.05 from $1.20.

Dell Computer Corp. <DELL.O> was down slightly at 37-1/2 in after-hours trading on Island ECN. The direct seller of personal computers issued a four-quarter earnings warning.

Microsoft Corp. <MSFT.O>, the most heavily weighted stock in the Nasdaq composite index, slipped to 98 from its close of 99-3/8.
