Maybe I'm missing something, or its because it seems to far off, but I am not hearing discussion about the looming switchover to HDTV. In 2006, only HDTV signals will be broadcast, so every existing TV becomes obsolete. The silicon content in HDTV's is huge, dwarfing the PC era as a prime driver of chip consumption. I would expect HDTV's being the only kind purchased fairly soon as word gets out, who wants to buy a TV that is obsolete in a few years?
The replacement market for every existing TV is beyond huge- so, we have chip consumption being driven by many new applications every day, with this singular event looming as a major overlay. Why aren't the analysts taking this into account when they make their forecasts?
I must be missing something-help!
