My AHD gave gallows as its source, but none of the usual language derivations. Also that galluses was an alternative plural for gallows. I have to admit I failed to see the connection!- So umm-- are suspenders a type of little death? A symbolic hanging? I am very ambivalent on the death penalty, and am only glad I'm not a lawmaker. Nothing would ever be decided with me in charge--Black-white is just anathema to me. Except for child molesters and crimes against children. I know if someone threatened my children, I wouldn't hesitate to kill him.
