SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Sony Electronics' chief operating officer is spending time this week showing off some of the consumer giant's latest products.
Teruaki Aoki, meeting with a group of reporters during a stopover in San Francisco, demonstrated its handheld, mini music players, which can carry tunes that users download off a personal computer. The VAIO Music Clip carries a sugested retail price of $300, and the MS (memory stick) Walkman sells for $400.
Rick Clancy, a spokesman for the unit of Sony Corp.(SNE), wouldn't discuss the sales performance of the two newly-launched products. He said both are targeted at music enthusiasts. The MS Walkman, equipped with a removable memory stick, holds up to two hours of music and began shipping in January.
Debuting in April is Sony Electronics Network Walkman. The flashy, handheld 3 oz. music machine, will retail for $300.
Additionally, the company's AIBO "entertainment robot" roamed amongst the attendees. Park Ridge, N.J.-based Sony Electronics said the interactive robotic dog will be available again beginning Feb. 15 through telephone and Internet sales. Priced at $2,500, previous orders for the product have exceeded the number of units available and the company hasn't been able to keep up with demand.
U.S.-listed shares of Sony Corp. rose 7/8 to 246 1/8.
