>> Disk drive prices remained stable last week.

Encouraging so far. I took a look at inventories from the Q reports. Here is a summary.

WDC : current $101M year ago $144m
MXTR: current $103M year ago $153m
HDD : current $ 93M year ago $147m
SEG : current $369M year ago $410m

With this lean posture I really don't see how pressure on prices can develop. In fact I think all the risks are to the side of higher prices. If PC demand increases in India or China or Europe, is there any DD maker to fill it other than the usual vendors (SEG, WDC, HDD, MXTR, IBM, Fugitsu, Samsung) ?

I have a specific question I hope you can answer. In 1999 Fugitsu announced a product family based on 10.2 GB platter. However, I can't find any reference to it anymore. The highest density Fugitsu disks that I can find use 3 heads for 10.2 GB disks. This is the MPE family. Have you seen any products in stock in the "MPF" family that was announced late last year ? I have not found any. The reason I repeat the question is that it may be an indicator that Fugitsu does not intend to stay in the market.

Thanks again for sharing your data.
