Re: "No smp Athlons until 2001?" If this is true, this is a major blow to the entire Athlon project. Athlon was supposed to be compatible with Alpha MBs and now years are going by without SMP support. What's going on? Something MAJOR is wrong, if this report is true. There will be no penetration into the server market or serious workstation volume without SMP. While everybody has been praising the superiority of the EV6 architecture, Intel has been shipping well over 100 million SMP capable chipsets for years and years with their "inferior bus architecture", while AMD has been unable to deliver the simplest of SMP solutions. AMD is just over their head and made a bad decision to copy DEC's problems. Now the chickens have come home to roost. AMD will remain in the mid to low range without hopes of highend penetration.
