Furukawa revisited
I see you over at the Softbank thread.
Looking at a Daiwa report with figures from January 06. Furukawa owns 21.48% of JDSU. 100YEN = $1.00 With a 1221YEN Furukawa share price the total value of Furukawa is $7,932,000,000 and at a $149.50 JDSU share price the total value of JDSU shares held are $10,836,000,000. Add in shares in other companies and equity (I assume this is property and so on)you can add another $1,853,000,000 So you are left with $4,758,00,000 to the positive for Furukawa as of Jan 06.
If you do the math today it is $5.519B the positive for Furukawa plus you get a company with 9000 employees.
Not bad for a slow moving components maker. They also currently have joint ventures with Lucent in the US. but are burdened with old copper and aluminum businesses. JDSU and Lucent are important customers.
I think I've made more money buying JDSU. Oops - did I say that -- no buy 5801 - it rules!!! The overall trend is that they move together but not daily. As for selling, I think they will sell it to make up any revenue shortfalls. But very slowly.
