Stocks Poised for Steady Growth
Will Weather Interest-Rate Climb

... Technology and Internet stocks growing at fast clips will likely continue to
be rewarded by investors, even if rates rise. But Mr. Sowerby of Loomis
Sayles warns that rising rates will make investors scrutinize highfliers in their
portfolios. Weakness in such stocks as Qualcomm and JDS Uniphase last
week could be early signs of this scrutiny.

Mr. Sowerby recommends technology stocks that are growing nicely but
still trade at reasonable prices in relation to their earnings, like Compaq
Computer, First Data and Compuware. "As rates rise you should stick to
stocks that are appropriately priced," he warns....
