Sunday Morning Musings

I had a long talk with one of the gang last night. Though still a believer in the Game, they were upset at the damaged state of their portfolio, and felt it was faring poorly compared to those of the other Hunters.

If you compare your ytd returns to the GKI you could easily get that feeling, since the GKI, which consists of an equally weighted grouping of the most popular Gorilla and King companies, stands at 99.4% of its Year 2000 starting value. But since Sir Apollo's mid November '99 survey shows the average G&Ker was weighted towards the younger components, few will manage to meet the Index.

In order to afford us a reasonable standard to measure our performance against, I put together a weighted version of the GKI, and based it on a year beginning million dollar portfolio. In this scenario, the average G&Ker would be down over $205,000 as of Friday.

If you'd like to measure your ytd results against the weighted G&K portfolio, it can be accessed at

Feel better <gg>?
