because of the feb. daytrading expo...
the marriott marquee is right in the center of times square, on 45th/46th and broadway. the way the streets run in times square, broadway and 7th ave are virtually on top of each other.

places around there:
tkts is located in midtown (bet. broadway and 7th ave); they give half-price tickets for some broadway plays. there are numerous well known plays in the area, including phantom (44th btw broadway/8th), annie get your gun (next to the marquee), cats (up on 51st/broadway) and tons more.
42nd st is well known, the prostitutes are gone, for the most part, and it's all disney-fied. madame tousseau's wax museum is NOT open yet. similarly, the nasdaq building (43rd/7th) is not open either. the espn sportszone, abc shooting area, all star sports cafe, etc. are all open, and willing to take your money.

food in the very immediate area...
thai - pongsri thai (48th & 8th) is considered one of the best in nyc. very good prices for nyc.
lindy's deli (1/2 a block away from marquis, on broadway) is a landmark for their cheesecake...
'little brazil' is on 46th or 47th street, i forget which, between 7th and 5th avenues.
virgil's bbq (43rd or 44th, right off of 7th ave) is considered quite good, but i'm sure some would disagree...
if you want to go to ethnic food and save a couple dollars, go to 9th ave...and walk down 46th st., also known as restaurant row (though because of its reputation, the prices have increased).

there's 2 problems on fri/sat evenings for dinners: 1) pre-theatre crowd and 2) new yorkers like late dinners.
put the two together, and there's not much of a gap where tables are easy to get.

just some random thoughts. i'm posting this in an old room so that it doesn't take up space in other boards. i personally haven't been to lindy's or virgil's, but enough people have rsaid nice things about it...
