So we can all jump in and say it won't hurt us, but don't put any good intentions in the actions of the exchanges, they have none.

Sure, they could have a hidden agenda which is self serving. But from what I have read the rule doesn't hurt anyone and is more likely to keep small traders from losing their money in the stock market. The $25k limit should be of no consequence to a good trader. Aspiring traders should learn to trade well before using margin. And gamblers shouldn't be trading, or at least not on margin.
