i did some more looking around and found something cool...

here's a way to always make communicator open with the profile you want if you have more than one profile. i haven't tried it, but it looks super straightforward. let me know if you go for it. i know you said you deleted the other profile.

here's how:

"Applies to: Communicator (all versions)
Operating Systems: Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT.

Problem Symptoms: How Do I Make Communicator Open With A Specific Profile?

Solution:

To make your desktop Netscape icon open a specific profile, do the following:

1.Right-click on the desktop icon and select "Properties".
2.Select the tab titled "Shortcut".
3.In the box titled "Target", add the following after netscape.exe: [space]-P"[profile name]" so that a profile
named "bob" would look like:
netscape.exe -P"bob"

If you're having problems, be sure that you have used an uppercase P and that there is no space between the P and
the first quote enclosing the profile name."
