Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2000 00:05:06 +0000 Well Tom, I read your review. Corel may have added to "ease of" to installation of Linux, but taking that to ideal for desktops is kind of a stretch. I most likely use a computer at much higher levels than most, but to me a user wants applications that do something useful and the supporting software that allows applications to do something useful should not get in the way. Corel's use of KDE is for me a poor choice, KDE development path is going to make the window manager the end application which is a path to make it even more piggy than it is today. See www2.linuxjournal.com to see how cool KDE will be with it number 2 feature, a Theme Designer. Yes I can't waite to see someone implement the outhouse theme on their desktop. But back to Corel. Currently Corel does not have an office suite for Linux and Corel's choise to use Wine as a short cut is another pathway to increased complexity and bugs. I like to keep the window manager/program launcher at the correct level of separate from the applications. This is a wiser choice as mixing them leads to compromises of design. A long time ago I started using this integrated application's Linux environment. My choice is fast and provide's several ways to directly and graphically launch applications. But I favor managing applications to maximize my ability use, create, review and manage the information and ideas available to me provided by the applications served by my computer.
