I gave my opinion and I respect yours. I never stated that I supported the rule, only that I didn't think it was harmful (and that it may actually reduce some risk to certain traders). If they raise the limits to higher than what I have in my account then I'll adapt. Maybe I'll even complain, but at least I'll adapt to the change. Certainly not being able to short would be a problem, but not having margin generally would not be a problem for my trading.

The $25k figure is interesting. The day trading firm I trade at has a $25k minimum to open. I think this is probably common among those firms. Perhaps that's why they chose $25k. The thing is, it's cheaper/easier to open up an account at an online broker with only $2k. So perhaps it is the day trading firms that are behind this proposal.
