UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AND CEL-SCI CORPORATION RECEIVE SECOND GRANT FOR TUBERCULOSIS VACCINE VIENNA, VA, JANUARY 31, 2000 -- CEL-SCI CORPORATION (AMEX: HIV, Berlin Stock Exchange: LSR) and Dr. Hassan Azzazy of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, have been selected to receive a phase II Maryland Industrial Partnership (MIPS) award for the potential development of a vaccine against TB (tuberculosis). This second award follows on the heels of promising results seen during the first phase of the work with Dr. Azzazy. The project makes use of CEL-SCI's L.E.A.P.S.(tm) platform technology in combination with DNA vaccine technology. L.E.A.P.S. is a novel technology, which permits the control of the immune response, which is elicited by a vaccine. In so doing, this technology may make possible the development of new vaccines and treatments. The L.E.A.P.S. technology is being developed in seven collaborations for various cancers, infectious diseases and also heart disease. CEL-SCI Corporation is a biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to mobilize the immune system to combat disease. # # # "CEL-SCI press releases are available through Company News On-Call by fax, (800) 758-5804, Ext. 445563, or at cel-sci.com on the Internet."
