RESEARCH ALERT - Compaq Computer keeps outperform

CHICAGO, Jan 31 (Reuters) - ABN AMRO said Monday it continues
to rate Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) as outperform based on prospects for a strong
long term outlook for the world's second largest computer maker.

-- Following an analysts' meeting last week, ABN AMRO also said that it is trimming its year 2000 first
quarter and second quarter forecasts by 2 cents a share in each quarter. This brings ABN AMRO's full
year forecast to $1.09 from $1.13.

-- After recently readjusting growth targets for year 2000 down to 15 percent, the company implied last
week that 10-12 percent was a more realistic growth target range for 2000, ABN AMRO said in research
note.

-- Shares of Compaq were up 5/16 to 27-1/2 in early morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
