If you want to take a look at IDC, you will need to determine the strength of their patent portfolio. I would suggest reading Clark Hare's posts over the last couple of years on IDC. Of course you need to due your own DD and reach your own conclusions...but I dont think that they have much of a case.

As to the particular post which you found it is filled with half-truths. Ameritech operated a CDMA/analog network in the midwest....however since they were sold to SBC which has a much larger TDMA network they are transitioning to TDMA (this will allow roaming). They sold off a portion of their properties (Chicago, St. Louis) to GTE and are sending out mailers to other current customers that they need to "upgrade" their CDMA phones. IMO....they will have a lot of angry customers.

As to CDMA2000/W-CDMA....AT&T and SBC were NEVER candidates for either upgrade (at least directly from TDMA). I dont believe that either standard is compatible with their core network....they would have to overlay a IS-95 (cdmaONE) network first.
