Jeff, you are still missing my point. A regular stop turns into a market order once a trade occurs at or beyond your stop price. So the game is to run the stop and gap so the fill is way beyond the stop.

To avoid this you have to enter a stop limit order which specs a price limit to the fill. Example is a long sell stop at 50, but don't fill the sell lower than 49. Few people know about this little tidbit. Of course if the stock is really moving in a legit fashion on news, having that limit feature on a stop will leave you in the dust unfilled.
