Steve, that "Another Delay" article has "Flame Bait" written all over it. Now it might give you a few chuckles to know that projects like Merced have slipped from its original schedule (though that Willamette date of "late-1998" is just pure BS). But know that Merced will be here well before any of the new high-end processors, even AMD's Mustang and Intel's own Willamette. Need I remind you that AMD's 64-bit processor won't be here until the end of 2001? By then, McKinley will have arrived! Need I also remind you that the RISC competition (the guys who are most afraid of Merced) has been slipping big time as well, gaining only an average of 29% in performance in all of 1999? (Source MPR 12/27/99) Looks like the competition is holding the door WIDE open for Merced to hobble on through. Need I further remind you that even the "spry Athy" was released late (August 1999 instead of June 1999), and even then in extremely light quantities? One thing is for certain. Schedules slip all the time. And certainly iNtEL (you really ought to work on your capitalization, sTeVIE) isn't the only company whose schedules slip. Tenchusatsu
