Major Electrical Research Institute Favorably Reviews AVCAN's System

January 31, 2000 Trading Symbol: ACN

John J. Sutherland, President and C.E.O., reports:

EPRI (Electrical Power Research Institute) recently completed a full research review of the AVCAN system and determined that the AVCAN system was 2« times more effective at detecting conditions and defects on electrical transmission lines than many traditional aerial inspections at a competitive cost.

The results of the research study also found that the AVCAN system mapped the location of each transmission structure or other point of interest on the transmission right-of-way within the prescribed accuracy of 99%.

Report summaries will be distributed to 700 EPRI member companies providing AVCAN with fully qualified recognition to the electrical transmission industry worldwide. The full EPRI research report "Airborne Inventory and Inspection of Transmission Lines - AVCAN Helicopter Patrol System" authored by Dr. Mark Ostendorp, P.E. as principal investigator, will be published by March 1, 2000.

Deregulation of the electric utility industry in the United States has caused electric transmission companies to examine methods to become more efficient and hence, more competitive in their operations. EPRI reports that the AVCAN system provides an effective helicopter-based aerial patrol system that permits the identification of a significant number of transmission line conditions and defects.

EPRI is the collaborative science and technology development organization for the global energy and energy services industry. The company provides a wide range of innovative products and service to more than 800 energy-related organizations in 40 countries.

AVCAN has developed a technology that enables utility companies to operate more efficiently by supplying a business solution that effectively monitors and controls inventories and assets. As a data acquisition service provider with proven industry knowledge, AVCAN provides fast, cost-effective and critical information to utility companies. By generating integrated information that is vital to the planning, managing and operating of utilities, AVCAN services utilities and allows them to gain a strong business advantage.
