As an Intel investor, I would hope that Intel is thick in the forging of any new standards related to information-processing. Intel has long attacked the consumer market (witness partnerships w/ Mattel, home networking hardware, Celeron cpus, etc.), and arguably for all those efforts the profit margins are comparatively modest, so I don't see a new consumer Flash memory standard as being any different a target for Intel. It is the mindshare and the overall SIZE of the market that makes it so darn attractive... tens or hundreds of millions of dollar of incremental profits for Intel would not be trivial in anyone's books.
