Van Sun says Global got $5-million bid from Merrill Lynch Global Investment.com Financial Inc GIV Shares issued 19,094,960 2000-01-28 close $1.47 Monday Jan 31 2000 The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition that Geoff Wheelwright, vice-president and chief operating officer of Global Investment.com Financial, one of the most actively traded stocks on the Canadian Venture Exchange, is happily basking in the glare of investor attention. Reporter Barbara Aarsteinsen notes that Mr. Wheelwright says the Vancouver Stock Exchange had a certain colourful reputation in a number of global markets and the new venture exchange has helped shed the past and give a new start. Mr. Wheelwright says that predecessor Victory Ventures went through several incarnations, as a bedding company, coffee company and resource company, before it found a niche in the wired world. Last spring, after new owners came on board, it was discovered that hidden away among its assets Victory had the rights to the domain name investment.com. The revelation came when new president Charles Desjardins received an unsolicited offer for $400,000 (U.S.). Mr. Wheelwright says that several more offers came in, including a $5-million bid from Merrill Lynch, but the company kept the domain name.
