I was not defending the abhorrent practice of slavery. I passed on the article because it went against some of some of what i thought i knew as history. If any part of his article is untrue, i would be surprised, but i am open to learn any correction. Although i often enough disagree with Jack Anderson's writings, i believe him to be a man of integrity and his research is generally thorough.

FWIW, although i live in the south, i am not a native southerner (I was born abroad and only became a us citizen in my late teens).
