Regarding flash cards, standards etc. here was Intel's attempt at just that in case you are still interested. This concept and spec were widely accepted in concept (the Miniature Card Implementer's Forum had a broad membership) but the actual products using these cards never really took off. Part of the reason is because the flash you are speaking of (compact flash & SSFDC) is a different type of flash than Intel makes. Although Intel flash can effectively be used in data-only applications (digital cameras etc.) it is more appropriately focused in either code+data or all-code applications. The compact flash and SSFDC cards have flash that is typically used only in data applications. Hope this helps.
