Company Press Release

Xicor Announces 256K 2-Wire EEPROM

Two Versions Available: Industry Standard and
Secure Block Lock

Parts Operate Down to 1.8V

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2000--Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq:XICO - news)
today introduced two new members of its EEPROM memory product line, the X24256 and
X24257.

Both products are 256K EEPROM products that operate down to 1.8V, and support the industry
standard 2-wire interface operating at 400Khz. They are designed to meet the needs of portable
products, and are ideal for use in cell phones, PDAs and other energy sensitive applications.

When delivered in the tiny Xicor Ball Grid Array (XBGA(TM)) packaging, the X24256 and
X24257 enable EEPROM memory participation in applications with the most demanding size
requirements. The XBGA package is 58% smaller than older SOIC packages (8.4 mm(2) for
XBGA versus 20 mm2 for SOIC packaging).

``The X24256 and X24257 fills out Xicor's line of industry standard 2-wire EEPROM
products, and is ideal for those applications requiring low cost, high density EEPROM
solutions,' said Walter Wong, director of nonvolatile memory marketing. ``Moreover, the
ability to support operation in 1.8V systems makes this product the solution of choice for
battery powered products.'

With the release of the X24256/24257 the Xicor EEPROM family includes densities from 4K
to 256K. The X24256 features a pinout and functionality compatible with industry standard
products available from a variety of suppliers. The X24257 features the same pinout and base
functionality, and includes support for Xicor's unique Block Lock(TM) function.

This function allows the designer to ``lock' selected memory blocks within the memory array
via special software register commands, preventing unauthorized access to these blocks. This
function adds an enhanced level of security for preventing cloning in cell phones or other
applications where proprietary information needs to be securely stored.

Availability and Price

The X24256 and X24257 are packaged in an 8 lead SOIC, 14-lead TSSOP and an ultra small
foot print XBGA(TM) package. The price of the X24256-2.5 or the X24257-2.5 with a Vcc of
2.5V in an 8-lead SOIC package in the 1000 quantity level is $3.15.
