A pretty common pattern of behavior in the White House. He was a paranoid lunatic, but he did have a brain, and a fairly accurate grasp of the realities of the world.

I remember reading this essay a while back, and being impressed by it:

I like the way he looks at the economic landscape of the US in the last two decades a product of trends within the American corporate world, rather than as a result of the political sideshow. I think he's right: the politicians are much more products of the zeitgeist than producers of it.
