RESEARCH ALERT - PaineWebber ups Whittman-Hart
CHICAGO, Jan 31 (Reuters) - PaineWebber analyst Andy Burns said Monday he upgraded his rating on Internet professional services company Whittman-Hart Inc. (NasdaqNM:WHIT - news) to buy from attractive.

-- said Chicago-based Whittman-Hart's shares traded up 12 percent immediately following a positive fourth quarter earnings release.

-- said Whittman-Hart's shares were down 34 percent last week due to continued concerns about the integration of the planned merger with Internet consultant firm USWeb/CKS Corp. (NasdaqNM:USWB - news) and recent speculation about potential insider selling.

-- said, ``We remain confident in management's ability to integrate the merger while maintaining strong mindshare and operating visibility.'

-- said the speculation about insider sales was related to routine shelf registration filed late Friday on behalf of Novell Inc. (NasdaqNM:NOVL - news), consistent with the original terms of a partnership agreement signed in September.

-- said PaineWebber views the current risk return profile on the stock as favorable and sees its recent weakness as a strong buying opportunity.

-- said he maintains his 12-month price target of $70, his 2000 earnings per share estimate of 75 cents and 2001 EPS estimate of $1.

-- Shares of Whittman-Hart rose 17/32 at 35 on Nasdaq in morning trade.
