Subject: EJB Performance Benchmark: WebLogic vs IAS

IAS4 includes a simple example program which can be used to model a "typical" EJB application fairly easily. See the <ias4>/examples/ejb/perf directory for more information, and make sure to set the various heap size flags, for optimal performance.

We have used this same code to do a fairly extensive performance comparison with WebLogic. A white-paper is available at:
borland.com

The source used in this example is at: borland.com

We were quite pleased with the results (IAS runs up to 10 times faster), and are working on a comparison with WebSphere as well.

Please let us know how findings when you run this EjbBenchmark.

You can get to the report as follows :

go to inprise.com

In the left frame click on the item Newsgroups->Application Server

This should start your newsreader and open the APPserver newsgroup.

Find the article titled : "EJB performance benchmark : Weblogic vs IAS" by Edwin DeSouza, posted on 22 jan. The article contains a link that doesn't seem to work. (at least I never got the document over) But the reply by Rafay Khawaja contains a 380 KB word document as attachment. That contains the report.

Note that it is not a truely independend benchmark, as it was done with a simple example EJB application that ships with IAS.

Also the application is much simpler than any real-world application would ever be.

Nevertheless, the graphs are impressive.

Regards,
T.
