ed, I'm no gent. You should have heard me cuss as I shoveled 20 inches of drift off my driveway...would have put an end to all arguments.
But you're right as usual, of course. Everyone makes mistakes. The dumber ones, at the end of the day, forget to ask themselves, "What did I do wrong?".
Mistakes are OK, as long as we make them only once...
Well, maybe twice....
But there's no greater lesson than the one you must pay for with after-tax dollars. And if that doesn't make you smart, then nothin' will...
I'm more wary of individuals who say they've never messed up than those who say, "Got a few days? Lemme tell you how I screwed up...."
Well, that's life, edamo.
Kids learn through an iterative process. Touch the stove and you get burned. Touch it again and you get burned again. Hmmmmmm. Think I'll go outside instead.
Forgot your hat ?(I can attest to that) Man, my ears feel like they're gonna fall off...Hey, don't you think gloves would be a good idea. Well, let me try them and I'll tell you how they help me make snowballs......
Learning. From mistakes. From what works and what doesn't. It's unfortunate that only the lessons we have to pay for are the most memorable. After all, who ever rushed to pick up "Free Kittens?" Didn't cost anything. No value in a non-lesson that didn't have a price.
There are many who will price their own lessons these next few months. But with your point of view, Jill's, Poet's, Fiber's, and a handful of others, maybe there's a hope we can hold to that maybe we'll all just get smarter.
Without the cost.....
Mark
