Clark,

<< Will IMT-MC be allowed to roll out before IMT-DS
IMO, they will role out at about the same time.

<< or will all the bickering in W-CDMA land hold up IMT-MC? >>

Would you care to explain the "bickering in W-CDMA land" you are referring to? The entities that comprise 3GPP seem to have a full head of steam and also seem to be working very tightly to their common objective. This is no small accomplishment given the number of network operators, technologies, subscriber base, and countries they represent.

<< even though IMT-MC is not formally approved there is essentially no chance of it being significantly different than CDMA-2000 as now spec'd >>

DoCoMo seems to feel the same way about UTMS with UTRA FDD (WCDMA) for IMT-DS as do several European operators.

<< whenever W-CDMA gets their act together >>

Who is "W-CDMA"?

<< Technically and in internal politics CDMA-2000 is much more mature. >>

Technically I think it is. As regards to "in internal politics" I am not sure what you mean. Would you care to explain?

I might add that in the politics of global wireless mobile telephony that Qualcomm and CDG are just now for the first time starting to show real maturity from my perspective.

<< Thus, although "IMT-MC" and "IMT-DS" might technically roll out together, for all practical purposes CDMA-2000 will roll out years ahead of W-CDMA >>

I expressed my opinion on when I thought "IMT-MC" and "IMT-DS" would roll out earlier in this post. I would like to see CDMA-2000 in commercial rollout just as quickly as possible. I would also like to see it adopted by one single major carrier that today flies the GSM flag. You'll hear a loud cheer from me when that happens.
