The 'rig trade' of the Dog can not be done via e. It's an art - creating deals that otherwise do not exist. Last week we closed the jackup sale from Diamond to Noble, and my associates closed the jackup sale to Marine (both on the same day - maybe a first in rig broker history). These were the first single-rig offshore rig sales in about 18 months. More are coming...

Everyone is trying to create an e presence. These e portals are popping up at the rate of 2-3 a week. Business plans are flying. Most all of them are lacking one vital element...content. It's great to have a new Caddy in the garge, built by an expert consulting team, but if you don't have a road (content) to drive it on then it's not much use other than to say how pretty it is.

The large oil companies are each building their own systems that are not compatible in an effort to look like they are doing something. They are not taking the input from the guys on the front line that actually do the business. The result is going to be a mess. But a lot of high-priced e consultants will make a lot of money in the process.

It is amazing to sit and listen to these guys talk for a half hour using all the popular e buzz words but not say a damn thing. But it all sounds real good.

We'll see how it all shakes out. But so far, I'm not impressed.
