karusb,

Justs like the upturn will exceed all earnings expectations, so will the downturn prove to be far worse that you ever imagined. Regardless, selling and buying back in is a tricky game which I will not do with my core shares. I have shares on margin I will sell later this year or at a price of $180+, whichever comes later. I will buy more shares when we implode in 2003 or so. Just remember, the LT average is ~40%, even with the ugly downturns. Anyone not satisfieed with 40%/year should have their head examined.

what brings money to AMAT during the
downturn ?

Spares and service does increase as a % but there are always systems being sold, even during the worst downturn. The number shrinks dramatically though.
