Mark FitzGerald at Merrill Lynch has always worried about the emergence of competition. A little while back he was predicting Komatsu would make gains into Cymer's dominant position.

From his October 26, 1999 comment: "In our current model we make the assumption that Komatsu will continue to make market share gains in Japan and CYMI's worldwide market share will drop to 80% in 2000."

Later his worries lessened and now he appears to be worried again.

He has a $2.21 estimate for 2001. If Cymer's margins grow like many of us on this thread think they will, then he will have to revise his earnings up and will probably end up upgrading the stock again.

This is just another example of an analyst trying to show how smart he is. Most times they prove the opposite.
