Since I know less than nothing about this topic, let me know if you'd recommend a product like this to accomplish the task you describe.

Yes the Networking in a Box looks like a great buy. Especially because the hub, switch, can be used with either 10 or 100 megahertz Ethernet. To be compatible with the configuration I suggested the Network in a Box kit would need one more NIC. However, as I stated at the end of my long message if you are only going to share a cable/DSL modem between two PCs you do not need a hub, switch. In this case all you need is 3 NICs and one crossover cable. With NICs going for a street price of less than $20.00 and crossover cables for less than $15.00 you can save approximately $25.00
