MCT Announces Introduction of MCT 5115 Integrated Handler With Receipt Of Multiple-Unit Order ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Micro Component Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCTI), a leading supplier of semiconductor test handling solutions, announced today the introduction of their new MCT 5115 integrated handler and simultaneously the receipt of an order for multiple units. The system is targeted at new Chip Scale and near Chip Scale packages such as those being manufactured by semiconductor producers and major assembly and test subcontractors.
The new MCT 5115 features the same proven gravity and pick and place technologies used on MCT's successful 5100 series handlers and adds integrated capability for laser mark, tape & reel output, in-pocket vision inspection, and a bulk bowl feed input option. The system offers a system throughput of over 8,000 units per hour in dual site mode at zero test time. The system's unique Plunge-to-Board (PTB) capability provides for precise device placement directly onto a tester load board or plunged into a socket designed specifically for high performance RF testing.
Dennis Nelson, MCT's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing commented, "The MCT 5115 is a particularly ideal test handling solution for the new leadframe based packages such as Amkor Technology Inc.'s (Nasdaq: AMKR) new MLF package. These new packages offer outstanding electrical performance with extremely low lead inductance in a footprint of less than half that of a conventional 64 lead TSSOP. As new devices and packages become available, we need to be ready with next generation handling solutions. We are seeing a dramatic increase in RF test requirements with over 90% of our handler shipments in the last 12 months being purchased for portable electronics test applications. In addition to providing a high quality test environment for RF devices, the 5115 offers our customers a complete 'automation solution' including higher overall throughput and a lower cost of test by integrating several end-of-line process steps immediately after test."
Terry Davis, Amkor's Advanced Leadframe package product manager commented, "MCT's new 5115 is an excellent solution for handling our new MicroLeadFrame (MLF (TM)) package. We have recently announced a complete line of MLF(TM) packages that is creating tremendous demand for us. We began working with MCT about a year ago to prepare for this exact situation and it is wonderful to have a new integrated handling system with all the automation options we require available at the time our parts hit major production volumes. The 5115 improves throughput and eliminates costly handling material that ultimately end-up in landfills."
MCT is a leading manufacturer of automated test handling equipment satisfying the complete range of handling requirements of the global semiconductor industry. MCT has the largest installed IC test handler base of any manufacturer, with over 9,800 units worldwide. Headquartered in St. Paul, Minn., the Company has sales and support offices worldwide. MCT is traded on the Nasdaq National Market System under the symbol MCTI.
