Someone published an expos‚ of the U.S. News rankings last year. They questioned how a school that was ranked 1st or 2nd (or 10th) one year could suddenly be 8th, 9th (or 1st) the next year. What could possibly change in nine or ten months?

The magazine says it is continually improving its survey methods and ranking criteria. The article argued that the changes are minor at best, more likely insignificant, but the issue carrying the rankings was an annual best-seller, if not the best-selling issue of each year. If there are no changes, no one needs to buy a new copy every year.

So, cheer up! This year's 11th may be next years 1st or 4th!
