Bill, Easy Al and his governors are talking about the margin debt more often in last few weeks. I can see the point about margin debt..

But, why is that this issue has come to focus at least 3 times (McDonnough (sp) and Greenspan) in the last 6 weeks? Each time the assertion was that "raising margin requirements will not have any impact on stock prices." Is there any outside chance that they are considering to raise margin requirement along with a modest rate hike tomorrow?

Perhaps, all this talk leading-up to such hike is to escape with a logic: "Gee we didn't believe that it would wreck such a havoc on stocks, or we wouldn't have done it! We did it because they wanted us to do it. If we had known, ...."
