US DVD player sales, down from Dec., but up 213.2% from last year...............................

Vital Statistics - 2/1/00

According to statistics from CEA, for the week ending Jan. 21, 2000, DVD player unit sales to dealers remain stagnant, yet high, at 101,298, a 213.2 percent increase over 1998 sales during the same week. Projection television sales are on the rise having sold 21,968, a 33 percent increase. Month-to-date and year-to-date, DVD player sales are 196,567, a 207.6 percent increase over January 1998 and projection television sales are 49,613, a 35.3 percent increase.

If that isn?t enough to suggest that consumers have adapted to the home theater experience, VideoScan released DVD title sales for the week ending Jan. 23, 2000. For the week, DVD title sales remain high at 715,000 yielding a tremendous year-to-date total of 2,296,000 (and it?s only the first month in Y2K)!
